When We Reconnect

When We Reconnect is our vision of what the ReKinection Festival we attend regularly has meant to us. This painting was done over the course of five days at the event and some short time in the studio. It depicts a story that we derived from the Navajo Creation story that tells of a time when Father Sky and Mother Earth had parted ways.

When Father Sky left so, too did the clouds. Over time the forests faded and the animals nearly extinct until what remained was a Golden Eagle, a tobacco plant, a sage bush, and cedar tree. When Golden Eagle flew to Mother Earth and made her acknowledge things cannot keep going and thrive with her alone, she needs Father Sky’s help.

A remedy to the relationship was met and with each generation passing, life carved its way to begin again through the reciprocal practice in providing and nurturing between one another, instead of isolating those roles.
