The story of Baba Yaga is typically told with the purpose to scare children to obey, but she’s also seen as a helpful spirit. It’s said that if you seek out her magical hut deep within the birch forest to ask for her help and she deems you to be pure of heart then she will guide you on your journey otherwise she will devour you. There’s a lot of lore around her and we’ve hidden quite a few symbols from various stories in this piece. She represents the cycles of life and death which we used the water wheel and her animal totems to represent.
The essence of Baba Yaga represents the unpredictable nature of the female spirit and Mother Earth and our relationship to the wild. She teaches us that we can learn just as much from the dark as we can from the light.
